Raise a glass...of clean water!
In the waning hours of the spring legislative session the IL General Assembly passed the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act into law. We are celebrating this victory for clean water for all Illinoisans, as Illinois has more lead service lines than any other state.
Passage of the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act helps prevent a public health crisis, reduces healthcare costs for everyone, creates clean water career opportunities in communities most impacted, and gets people back to work after the COVID-19 crisis.
Thank you for your advocacy on this important bill. Your calls and emails to your legislators statewide made a difference and made this legislative success a reality.
Now the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act is going to Governor Pritzker’s desk.
But our work for clean water is not done. This year, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will update the State Water Plan for the first time in nearly 40 years. This means each of us has an opportunity to ensure that Illinois has enough clean and affordable water for current generations and beyond.
The State Water Plan provides policy and program guidance on water resources management across state agencies. As people of faith and conscience, we understand the sacredness of water and know that we have to protect our state’s sensitive waterways and ecosystems. Robust public engagement is critical to writing an effective and equitable plan, so I need your help.
Please tell Governor Pritzker that as a person of faith, equitable access to safe, clean, living water is important to you.

PS: As you know, I’m actively working on the campaign to pass bold, equity centered climate justice legislation next week at the Statehouse. I’ll keep you posted as soon as a bill is introduced.
