Today, in response to President Joe Biden signing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law, the Faith in Place Action Fund released the following statement.
The Faith in Place Action Fund is thrilled to celebrate the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act into law. With this historic win for climate justice and healthcare access, we are hopeful for a new future that protects and prioritizes frontline communities and our shared home.
This law marks a major step in lowering barriers to access clean energy and affordable healthcare—both intersecting justice issues that make material differences in the lives of communities everywhere.
This monumental law was made possible in part by the pressure placed on key legislators by a diverse community of people of faith and spirituality and other advocates. Without strong grassroots advocacy and organizing, this bill could have been allowed to die.
While the IRA may be our nation’s largest investment in addressing the climate crisis, it cannot be the last. We must continue building momentum for better and bolder climate policies, and we must ensure that this current law is implemented such that vulnerable communities are not harmed by more oil and gas extraction and infrastructure.
We would also like to extend our sincerest thanks to all legislators who voted yes on this groundbreaking bill and those who continuously fought for bold climate investments. Finally, we look forward to the implementation of this law as we continue to work toward a healthier, more equitable, clean energy future for all.
